Baby Cutie

Thursday April 19th we were able to meet with a team of doctors at Vanderbilt. What a neat experience first off that we got to sit down and talk with a team of very possibly the most informed professionals on the subject of Spina Bifida. They began the day with an ultrasound that lasted over an hour. They carefully looked at and examined each part of Cutie. Above is a 3d photo we got of her, face (eyes nose lips) with her arm over the top of her head. While it was unnecessary to give us this picture our technician spent a little time trying to show us something other then the spine, belly and heart. We were thankful for that.
After meeting with everyone we found that both Di and Cutie qualify for surgery. So on Tuesday (April 24th) Di will have surgery. It beings at 7:30 and should take about 3 hours. During the surgery Di will have an epidural as well as general anesthesia. The surgeons will position cutie so they can close her back. The biggest risk is premature birth. Di will be 23 weeks 6 days the day of surgery. Our hope is that with proper bed rest and prayer Cutie will be able to stay put for another 13-14 weeks. So she will be born the 3rd or 4th week of July.
We appreciate all the calls, notes, love and prayers. We feel it is no accident we are here today, with this team of doctors and she will be receiving the best care possible.
