Smiles and Eyes

This little beauty has the best smiles and the prettiest big eyes!

She seems to have a very special place in her heart for Kamryn (who wouldn't!)

 Just gorgeous little lashes

She likes her stroller in the afternoons, wish she would nap but this is a good alternative.

Here she is awaiting an ultrasound on her head. She is just a little champ. We took the trip to Nashville 2 times this month. We are watching the ventricles in her brain very closely. Somewhere from 80% - 90% of children with spina bifida will develop hydrocephalus. Cerebral spinal fluid is the substance that baths and protects the brain and spinal cord. When a child has hydrocephalus, this fluid is not able to flow freely and will build up inside the head causing pressure within the brain. This is corrected through a surgical procedure called shunting. Usually, if a child develops hydrocephalus, surgery will be performed to place one or more shunts. A shunt is a long, thin tube which is placed within the fluid-filled spaces in the brain called ventricles. When an individual has hydrocephalus, these ventricles expand, putting pressure on the surrounding brain tissue. The shunt drains the excess fluid from the ventricles in the brain.
Her first visit in the beginning of the month her Neurologist was ready to put in a shunt. We decided to wait 3 more weeks to check again. This time the fluid increased but still within in a safe zone. We will check again in November. She will most likely need a shunt one day but the longer we can wait the better the results will be. We hoping that she will be closer to 6 months old. I am learning things never thought I had any interest in. I am so thankful for so many talented smart doctors.
